Weather: Frosty, yet sunny
Recently I’ve found myself wanting to disconnect. Not only from social media, but also from all the noise around me, be it online news or people on the bus. Maybe it’s an overall longing for peace & quiet after an especially exhausting and draining year. Or maybe it’s being fed-up with online content in general. I’m sure that I’m not the only one who has noticed the sharp rise in AI-generated and -curated content and bots on all major platforms. A few days ago, I decided to delete my accounts because of this. Here’s a list of all the platforms I’m no longer a user of:
- Tumblr
- Bluesky
- Discord
I also deleted my alt accounts on Twitter and all the posts and replies on my main, because I only want to use the site to text some people I’m friends with. Additionally, I plan on using YouTube mainly for listening to music and watching educational content. I used to consume a lot of “”””video essays””” about topics related to social media, but after a while I asked myself: “Do I really need to know about the Trader Joe’s tote bag? Or the Starbucks bear cup? Or the fact that everyone in their 20s is getting botox and facelifts and looking 40?”
The answer is no. I don’t need to know. And neither do you.
Happy New Year!
